Our Girl Scout Council is the home to Amahami Outdoor Center. Amahami is located in Sanford, NY, about 45 minutes from Binghamton. The outdoor center consists of 9 camping facilities, 4 of which are fit for winter camping. All of our facilities have a kitchen shelter with fireplace, pit latrines, and picnic tables (with the exception of only one unit, Outpost, which has no fireplace.

Campsite Descriptions

  • Viking Unit
The Viking Unit includes six platform tents, one of which has a permanent roof and is set up for special needs campers. Viking is right on the shore of the camp's Lake Waletka (walleka), and is the unit closest to Fletcher Lodge.
  • Viking Troophouse
Viking Troophouse is part of the Viking Unit. This is one of the four winter camping facilities at Camp Amahami. The troophouse is a one room building with a wood stove, and handicap accessibility. It also includes a covered cooking/eating area outdoors.
  • Lorelei
Lorelei is the next unit clockwise around the lake. Lorelei is nicely set on the shore of Lake Waletka, and is surrounded by hemlock trees. Lorelei has six platform tents, a fire circle, and one of the nicest unit kitchens at Amahami. The cooking pavilion overlooks the lake.
  • Explorer
The Explorer Unit is located very close to the middle of everything. Explorer is very close to the shower house, Pat's Arts and Crafts, Lake Waletka, and the lodge. Explorer is a very nice unit with a huge kitchen and cooking facility. Along with a fireplace in the unit kitchen Explorer has a fire pit that is great for troop campfires. Explorer has five platform tents, and a troophouse. Explorer troophouse is a large one room building with heat and electricity and is perfect for winter camping.
  • Robinhood
Robinhood is the first unit heading up the hill. Robinhood has three eight person cabins, one six person cabin, and one platform tent. Robinhood is a great unit for first time campers, or fall camping, this unit is not suitable for winter camping.
  • Pioneer
Pioneer is located on the same road as Mountaineer and Robinhood. It is placed nicely between them. Pioneer has three eight person cabins and one platform tent. Pioneer has a very nice unit kitchen, and two fire pits. One of the pits is located near the unit kitchen, and the other one is down the hill a closer to the cabins.
  • Mountaineer
Mountaineer is on top of a hill and is a very large flat unit. Mountaineer has three platform tents, and two dome tents. These dome tents are permanent roofed domes on platforms and sleep up to five girls each.
  • Outpost
Outpost is one of the most primitive units and consists of four Adirondack style wooden and roofed lean to's. Outpost is equipped with running water latrines, a fire pit, and a unit kitchen. Outpost is the only unit not equipped with a fireplace within the unit kitchen. Outpost is a distance away from center camp. Driving out to the site is prohibited. It is quite a hike, but the unit is beautiful. During resident camp Outpost is usually where the CIT's stay, I guess it is because they are always staying up late and they don't want to keep the rest of the camp awake.
  • Frances Rowe Troophouse
Rowe Troophouse is a large winterized facility and is available for year round camping. This unit is sometimes referred to as "The Hilton in the Hills", it may have something to do with the fact that it is the only unit with flushing toilets. Rowe consists of two large bunk rooms each equipped with bunk beds (yes bunk beds) and each room can hold up to sixteen girls. Rowe also has two large bathrooms with sinks, toilets, showers, a large multi-purpose room and kitchen which includes two gas ranges, a refrigerator, a three bay sink, and lots of counter and cupboard space. This is a great unit to use for winter camping, and for those camping weekends when your troop doesn't feel like "roughing it"
  • Fletcher Lodge
Fletcher Lodge is a large multi-use building. It houses a large institutional kitchen, a dining hall, Site Directors quarters and a troop wing. Like all of the unit's at Amahami the lodge can be rented, and can be rented as a whole or by sections.
Fletcher Troop Wing- The troop wing is an area of the lodge which has a variety of rooms flexible for many different size functions. The troop wing includes a family size kitchen including range/oven, triple sinks, refrigerator and some counter space. A shower plus full bathroom is located just off of the kitchen.
  • Gladstone Pines
It is a large winterized facility and is available for year-round camping. The unit has two bunk rooms, each equipped with 12 beds. There is also a Leader room that has four beds. The facility has two bathrooms with showers, full kitchen facilities to include dishware and cooking equipment. There is a washer and dryer.
